"Pasadena Water and Power has partnered with Yorkshire Development for Education and Outreach for sustainability. For a Tour of the Tricom Building Contact Yorkshire."

The goal of Yorkshire Development as a company is to develop and promote sustainable real estate development.

Yorkshire Development is a Pasadena based company that was created in 2000 to simply develop a conventional office building for its parent company. During the process, changes were made to improve the built environment and to incorporate sustainable features into the building such as solar generation, energy and water efficiency, and recycled materials. The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED™) Rating System, created by the U.S. Green Building Council, addresses these concepts. After examining the LEED™ Rating System we worked with our architect to redesign the construction documents to conform with LEED™. Consequently, our initial goal of developing a simple, conventional office building was transformed into the Tricom Building and simultaneously our company evolved from a traditional real estate developer to one committed to economically and environmentally responsible building practices.

Our prototype building is the first privately funded LEED™ certified commercial building in the San Gabriel Valley. Through this development, Yorkshire hopes not only to continue to revitalize our community, but to utilize the Tricom Building as an educational tool for the community.

This is accomplished through a cooperative partnership of the public and private sectors. We are rapidly establishing ourselves as the first private sector real estate development company focused on buildings that achieve LEED™ certification. Furthermore, we are the only real estate development company in Pasadena to be a member of the U.S. Green Building Council. As a natural extension of our primary business of development, we are engaged in additional services including project management, fee development, and consulting. Consequently, Yorkshire Development in cooperation with the City of Pasadena is poised to experience tremendous success in helping to improve the built environment in our community Our goal is to develop several of these buildings in the greater Pasadena area as reflected in our mission statement:

To improve the built environment by reducing development impact and use of resources while promoting educational outreach programs of sustainable design and conservation practices.
